IRELE EKITI is a small town in Ekiti North-East of Nigeria.It lies wholly in savana region with an extremely pleasnt climate. An agricultural plantation producing any or a combination of these vegetables will find ready markry. The only obstacle to rhe realisation of the benefits of that environment and location is the lack of sufficient capital investment in agricultural machinery. Yam: Irele is the home of yam in Ekiti. Irele is the main food basket for Ado Ekiti, Ikole Ekit, and, to a limited extend, Ilesa in Osun State. The back bone of Irele is River Oyi which should, in essense, be turned to a water way flowing to Kogi Ste to join the River Niger down stream. I will show, in the future, the minimum capital required to thurn Irele into a highly sufficicated industrial community for industrial agricultural organisation to produce the food items listed abouve for distribution of these produce to centres in Ekiti, Osun and Oyo State. Idealy, companies should be set up and funded proerly and set up own distribution centre at Ado, Ilesa and Ibadan. When fully functional, research should be carried out to establish the possibility of using River Oyi for generating energy. With appropriate dams, a few distance from the existing water fall which can be heard from Irele and, I suppose, Ponyan. That shows the potential of Irele given appropriate technology and investment. No matter what the Oni Administration, he will remain an honoured politician to Ekiti because without him, Irele would have remained in the dark without roads, electricity and water. Many politicians have used Irele as a milking cown to defraud the state for years and no body cares provided they received their own shares of the blood money. An Owo family has always been the beneficiary of the fraudulent proctices with the road contract from Aiyedun to Irele awarded to thid family, first to the father and then the Son and nothing came of these contracts until Fayiose and Oni. I think we should adopt both as honaary citizens of Ekiti. I hopeFayemi will continue where Oni left off.
