History :

The Mampongs are originally from Ashanti - Nkawie who migrated with Dankyira in the 1800´s after their defeat and settled first at Jukwa. The Mampongs are originally not from Twifo and they have never lived at anytime with Akwamu because the Twifo´s have a true history with Akwamu. Twifo has had its head quaters with the Akwamu empire at Twifo Hemang.The Mampongs were led by Jukwa to seek for a settlement on the Twifo land from Nana Atta Amoah I of Twifo Hemang and became a rent paying tenant on the Twifo land with their subjects.When the Mampongs saw how loose the Twifo confederation was, the eight Mamponghene Nana Appiah Nuamah sought during the official registration of Chiefs ordered by the colonial rulers in 1925 - 1926 to list the then Twifo Hemang king Nana Kwabena Otto II as his(Mampong) sub chief and entitled himself as Twifomanhene through this registration exercise.The matter was settled by eleven chiefs and Twifo Hemanhene was cleared from the attempt of the then Mamponghene to enlist him as a sub chief. The matter of the Twifomanhene has since not been addressed till today since the real Twifo kingdom (Hemang) has not recovered from their deep sleep. The Mampongs live till this day on the Twifo Hemang stoolland as payed tenants to Twifo Hemanhene and still carry the title as Twifomanhene.
