About village :

YPEREIA is a village with former name Hajiobasis(Hajompasi, Chatzompasi) in central Greece in the region of Thessaly.

History :

In former settlement Hajiobasis, had the Turkish authorities of the region until 1881 their settlement.
They used to have an Administration building(KONAK), where also the Leaders of the Turkish settlement lived, a small Mosque and also a couple of small houses for the Turkish soldiers.
At the farms(Ciftlik) of the Turks used to work Native Greeks from the surrounding villages.
After the Liberation of Thessaly in 1881 the settlement has been converted to a village and belonged to the municipality of Evidrio.
During the Population exchange in 1924 Greek-Refugees from the village Karacaoren, Bunyan Prefecture - Kayseri in Kappadokia area in Turkey arrived and settled down.These Greek-refugees belonged to the Turkish-speaking Greek Minorities, they lived around the areas of Kayseri in Asia Minor-Turkey, but they used Greek letters for their writings. This distinctive element of speaking Turkish but writing with Greek letters, gave them the characterization of Karamanlides.Even nowadays, many people from this village use to communicate in Turkish language.
During erection of the new settlement the the Mosque has been demolished and later on the Konak building ruined due to earthquakes.
After the arrival of the so called Greek Refugees from Turkey, the Greek state started to distribute farms for them, but also for the Natives from the surrounding areas, they used to work for the Turkish farms. In this way, two settlements, one for Greek Refugees and one for Native Greeks has been created in the same village, which exists until now with the name Ypereia.

YPEREIA(former Hajiobasi) is a village in the south of the LARISSA region Unit, Greece. It is a part of the Municipal Unit of ENIPEAS. YPEREIA is located south of LARISSA, west of VOLOS, north of LAMIA, north west of FARSALA and east of KARDHITSA.

There is a new church dedicated to the saints Konstantinos and Eleni. There is also an old church dedicated to Saint Eythimios, which now serves mainly cemetery activities.

In the village there is an Elementary school. Pupil have to move to the next town Megalo EVIDRIO and FARSALA for Gymnasium- and Lyceum-attendance
