PRESS RELEASE



The community of Coomacka is in high gear as it prepares to host the inaugural Coomacka Weekend Festival, organized by LIVEWIRE Productions. The two-day event will be held on CARICOM weekend; June 30 & July 1 at the Coomacka Community Centre Ground and will attract visitors from the capital and coastland, in an effort to showcase the small Demerara River community, which is home to just under one thousand persons.

Visitors are expected to begin arriving on Saturday afternoon where they will be treated to Coomacka’s hospitality which includes traditional Amerindian cuisine and music. Patrons will have the option of indoor overnight accommodations while a camping ground is to be set up for the nature enthusiasts.

Demerara River speedboat tours, craft and pictorial exhibitions, cooking competitions, fishing expeditions, hiking, cycle races, outdoor and indoor sports, kids-zone and overnight campfire are merely some of the events planned for the Coomacka Weekend Festival.

Highlights include a fashion show displaying a swimwear and casual wear clothing line from local designer Alana Binning. Among the nature attractions in Coomacka are white sand beaches, blue lakes, mountains and crystal clear water springs.

The Coomacka Weekend Festival is the first major event to be held in the small village and aims to increase awareness of the unique Region 10 settlement located seven miles east of Linden, while bringing a measure of economic activity which will catalyze benefits for its residents.
The event organized by LIVEWIRE Productions is sanctioned by the Guyana Tourism Authority.
