KOHSAR WELFARE SOCIETY
INTRODUCTION
Lower Chalawara is a far-flung village in Tehsil Kotli Sattian District Rawalpindi, about 100 km from Rawalpindi / Islamabad towards Northern East. People of this village are deprived of the basic necessities of life, like road, electricity, water, hospital, college, etc.
Since the birth of Pakistan in 1947, no government paid attention towards these basic needs of the people of the area. The political leaders showed their efficiency only in obtaining votes from the area, but paid the least attention towards the progress and development of the area.
Due to the non-availability of the standard educational facilities, many shining and brilliant students could not continue their education and thus lacked behind in the race of life. 62 years have passed since the birth of Pakistan, but there is still only one high school for boys and two primary schools for girls in this village.
Keeping in view this criminal negligence on the part of the government and the political figures, the deprived people of Lower Chalawara sat together and laid the foundation of a society namely Kohsar Welfare Society in 1995 for the uplift of the poor villagers.
In the beginning the society gathered funds on the self-help basis and took many steps for the social welfare of the people. The works done by the society include betterment of pedestrian’s ways, construction and expansion of mosques, construction of two-room building for boys primary school and one room for girls primary school and construction of water tanks to store water flowing down from springs.
REGISTRATION WITH SOCIAL WELFARE DEPARTMENT, GOVERNMENT OF THE PUNJAB
Keeping in view the enhanced public interest in the performance of the society, the executive body of KWS, thought it necessary to get the society registered with the Social Welfare Department of the Government of Punjab for better funding and to have links with the other NGOs working in the mainstream of social welfare. So after one year of its establishment, the Kohsar Welfare Society (KWS) was registered as an NGO on 14th of Feb, 1996 as a result of un-tiring efforts of the President of Society, Dr. Muhammad Kabeer Satti.
ACHIEVEMENTS: (1996 – 1998)
Establishment of Handicraft Training School in Lower Chalawara for betterment of women life.
Establishment of Head Office of KWS.
Door to door water pipe-line for the public of Dhoke Pandi.
Award of special prizes at the annual results ceremony to deserving students of Govt. High School Chalawara, Govt. Girls Primary School, Lower Chalawara and Govt. Boys Primary School Bandian in Lower Chalawara.
Distribution of cash money among the widows of the village on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Provision of loudspeaker, mat and repairing of mosque to Dhoke Chalawari village Lower Chalawara.
Donated fund for mosque of Govt. High School Chalawara.
Repairing of water supply scheme at Dhoke Bandian.
Remarkable Achievement: One of the major problem for about 4500 people for villages (Chalawara, Dhangran, Waghal and Santh Anwali) was to cross through running water of a rainy season Khad Nullah, due to destruction of the bridge in flood in 1992. Many people of the area lost their lives in it. KWS constructed a lift on the Khad Nullah, spending a huge amount. Despite its very limited funds, and made it possible for the public to go trough to the main road and market.
ACHIEVEMENTS: (1999 – 2001)
Give away prizes to the deserving students at Govt. High School Chalawara.
Provision of furniture for the Vocational Training Centre at Lower Chalawara.
Monthly pay of tutor at the above-mentioned Vocational Training Centre.
Provision of free medical treatment of the deserving villagers.
Distribution of free books and note-books at all the schools in the area.
Burrying stones for the graveyard.
Construction of water spring.
Furniture and stationery for the Roshan Welfare School.
Financial help to the poor and the needy.
Construction of water tank @ Dhoke Bandian (Naara)
ACHIEVEMENTS: (2002 – 2004)
Financial help of the widows.
Monthly pay for teaching staff of Roshan Kohsar Welfare School.
Repairing of clay road linking Chajjand with Kotli Sattian.
Purchase of Chain Kuppi for the lift.
Construction of water tank at Dhoke Pandi
ACHIEVEMENTS: (2005 – 2008)
Construction of water tank of Dhoke Kandiary.
Financial help of the widows.
Provision of free uniform for the deserving students at Govt. High School Chalawara.
Purchase of “burying stones” for the graveyards.
Water supply scheme for Lower Chalawara.
Construction of road from Sher Abdul House to Jeeran graveyard.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To highlight the regional issues and problems in an effective manner.
To work for the social improvement and uplift of the living standard of people.
To take care of the brilliant but poor students of the area.
Enhancement of brotherhood and mutual understanding among the general public.
To go for construction of a dispensary and provision of library.
To try for construction of at least one middle school for the girls.
Construction of roads and efforts for electric supply for the village.
Allocation of funds for the poor, needy and orphans from Zakat, Fitrana, Sadqah, Khaeraat etc.
Betterment and improvement of the graveyards and jnazagaah.
Organizing free medical camps for awareness about five fatal diseases.
Construction of Industrial School for women.
To create spirit of social welfare in the masses and to arrange “first aid” course.
Welfare of the patients.
Training of social service.
Development of children, women, young and handicapped.
Family planning.
Securing the wild life and the forests.
Improvement of the clay routes for pedestrians.
Welfare of the deprived people.
Tree plantation for better environment and to prevent land-sliding.
Construction of tanks (sheds) on the springs.
To work for the people, irrespective of religious, racial and social background of the people.
To work for general interest of the people.
To have links with the governmental and social departments and to get funds from them for the social improvement of the area.
