About village :

OMUKUKUTU VILLAGE (Omukukutu wa Hamundjungu) Is situated in the northern part of Namibia.It has a total population of less than 5000 residents. It is one of the less densely populated villages in Namibia considering its size. Agricultural and cattle farming (mainly Subsistence farming)are the main activities contributing to its local economy.

History :

The home town of Okongo once served as the military point for the South African Defense Force (SADF), during the liberation straggle for Namibia (South West Africa) from 26 August 1966 - 21 March 1990.

Festival :

Tourists can experience the Oshikwanyama culture by visiting the village which also hosts an annual cattle festival (Omaludi). Cattle herders from different cattle farms gathers with their cattle and makes them to compete in the kraal. The cattle are judged according to their movements and how fat they look. Owners of the winning cattle are rewarded with a trophy and money.
