History :

The ancient Gbekebor town is situated at the confluence between Forcados river and Gbekebor creek,on an island called Gbekebor island.Gbekebor tradition gives evidence and state that the earliest settlement of Ofunama in the present Egbema Kingdom in Edo state was founded by Opiti who migrated from Gbekebor town in Ogbolubiri-Mein kingdom,on their way to Ukuroama in Lagos.They used to stop at the place to shoot birds(ofoni) for food,and later settle at the site enhance the name Ofunama.The European calls it Ofunama.The man Opiti,Engolor an Ekudubu are brothers,sons of Femien. The town of Igbekebo in the present in the present day Ondo state was also founded from Gbekebor town by Angalagborowei.He is a half brother to Engolor who founded Gbekebor town. Gbekebor tradition also gives evidence of how the Obotebe people(an enclave) in Gbekebor territory in Ogbolubiri-Mein Kingdom came to be.Oro or Oruma was the father of Obotebe,while Obotebe is the father of Ogini.The man Obotebe live at the ikebiri area of Olodiama clan in the present day bayelsa state,but had to live the place for various reasons. Him and his family then migrated back up the river nun to Aboh town of Onya,while one of descendants and his household left Onya to Ibeni(Oyiakiri Ebe).Ogini came to beg Gbekebor people to found Obotebe.Epedekumor one of the great-great grandsons of Engolor founded Epedekumor village now known as Okofagbene situated almost directly opposite Obotete.Before founding the town,the Obotebe people settle in-between Ekrota and Emadaja communities water front(inside a creek) in Udu Local Government Area of Delta state.As fisher men,they could not conveniently performed their fishing fountions in the creek as a result they were commuting from their settlement(Ekrota water front)paddling through Gbekebor waterfront to carry out thier fishing activities everyday.As years progressd they could not endure with the stressful journey they were embarking on everyday and so they(Ogini and others) met Epedekumor(the founder of Okofagbene)at Gbekebor town to beg for a land to settle.The foundation of Obotebe is of recent.In the year 1894 when the people of Gbekebor sign a treaty with the colonial masters in the Gbekebor island,Obotebe was not there. Engolor founded Gbekebor from Agbodobiri,Headquarter of Ogbolubiri-Mein Kingdom.After founding Gbekebor,he founded another camp at Obubu creek near Ayakoroma.He was a feared man by everybody.Obutuwei in an attemt to found Ayakoromo from Kiagbodo town could not because Engolor refuse.He later succeeded by coming with his sister by name (Okofu)who was later marrid by Engolor.Later Obutuwei founded Ayakoromo in Gbekebor territory in Ogbolubiri-Mein Kingdom.Ayakoromo(meaning newly founded town from Kiagbodo).Arikoko is a sister to Engolor.She and her children founded the Egbesa Quarters in Gbekebor hence somebody from Egbessa quarter cannot be nominated to become a King in Ogbolubiri-Mein kingdom because they are from a woman children. Gbekebor territory is endowed with oil and gas.e.g Engolor oil field,Ekoro oil field,Obete(Gbekebor west oil field),etc.Gbekebor forest reserve for tourism and other mineral resources.It has an area of approximately 130 square miles(310sq.km)with a population of about 250,000 people.Gbekebor island,Pendfold island,Orotuo island,Millar island,Isoun island and adjoining islands,rivers and creeks along the forcados river,gbekebor creek,isoun creek,orugbene creek,obubu creek,orotuo creek,forcados flat,eginagbene creek,adigbomu creek,etakuwa creek,kala-ogo crrk,kotokoto creek,ekiselegbene creek with the following villages.Founkoro.Ekorogbene,Etakuwagbene,Oruwaeregbene,Ebiyegbene,Diribaghagbene,Tonygbene,Toru-abadegbene,Eginagbene,Ogbolokisegbene,Peppergbene,Tuogbene,Kotokotogbene,Toru-ogbogbene,Amayarengbene,Ogbumagbene,Ekiselegbene,Okofagbene,Finegbene,Attirigbene,Ogangangbene,Akara-ogbo,Eyetonghangbene,Donzuogbene,Perekemseigha-ogbo,Ebitomogbene,Bowuduwedibi-ogbo,Orotonbofagbene,Ebiologbo-asa,Gbekebor-overside,Gbekebor-zion,rokosugbene,ebiologbo-asa,Suogbene,Asiagbene,Adigbomu,Torufagbene,Bomukanghan,Yayorogbene,Oporopogbene etc.is known as Gbekebor land and Territory in Ogbolubiri-Mein Kingdom.
