History :

Igbindo is situated 20 kilometers western part of Ondo township on same tropical rain forest belt of Nigeria. It shares boundary with Ondo at Motadole about 7 kilometers west ward direction of Ondo and share boundary with Araromi Obu at a place called Otapena in Odigbo Local Govt. However,it is worth mentioning that Igbindo has more than 165 settlement in her subord. The population, according to the 1963 census was about 25% of the Ondo population figure of 1963.Now,the population is about 100,000.Her inhabitants who are traders farmers and civil servants also rank equal among many other communities of cocoa producer in Ondo West local Govt. Land. The inhabitants then derived their wealth from exploitation of the natural resourses available in their land. The legendary history of the origin of Igbindo is that, all Yoruba sprang from ondo.As could be observed,Igbindo is a historical town noted for loyalty, peace and devotion. It was on record that on many submission Osemawe Oba Luyare that reigned in 1614-1630 was the father of Akinnuwa of Igbindo.Akinnuwa though humble, industrious and generally loved by all, especially his father the Osemawe oba Luyare(1614-1630) was a hunch backed child as such, most unwanted in the palace at that time.Because of his love for this child, his father kept the situation secret for a long time but as the child grew older it was increasingly becoming difficult for the father to continue to keep it secret and in orderto avoid unpleasantness in the city,he decided to part with the loving child(Arke-Akinnuwa). Instead of killing him as expected by tadition. He collected all the good things that could make Akinnuwa\'s journey comfortable including house maids and servants and presented them to his son for an outward JOURNEY.Looking towards Odosida area(i.e westward direction to his palace); the Osemawe instructed his hunch-backed son to go on a straight journey with all his gift until he found name of surprise there he should dwell permanently. The Osemawe also Instructed chief Akinnuwa then(respected and notable chief in among Osemawe chiefs till today) to accompany his child Akinnuwa on this journey and to remain with him until he finally settle.Akinnuwa did not grumble. He obeyed his father absolutely and like the Biblical Abraham he set on a journey, the destination of which he did not know. The journey in the thick forest was rough and rugged, but he persisted crossing streams, rivers, dangerous snakes and animals. He climbed high hills and descended low until he found a gathering or sixteen (16) snails kissing one another in a circle. This was amazing to the entourage.Akinnuwa quickly recollected his fathers instruction that he should settle where he found a mark of surprise.Consequently,Akinnuwa alighted from his horse,he cleared the site and settled. On the third day of his settlement,Akinnuwa sent emissaries to his father Osemawe that he has discovered someting strange. Thus,he founded a town called \'\'Igbindo\".In order to avoid occurence of boudary dispute between him and his father, there was an arrangement that representative of each town should leave their respective town at a given time on opposite directives and wherever they meet should constitute the boundary between the two towns, and capability for it and because the career in question is suitable for his constitution.Accordingly, this was done and the parties met at a Motadole point where after some rituals a stone was created as a boundary point between Ondo and Igbindo till today. Also,it was on record that the oba Luyare(1614-1630) was the fifth Oba that reigned in Ondo and was the forefather of the Leyo family of Ondo ruling house who also was one of prince of the Jisomosun, ruling house.
