History :

The Itigidi community is the headquarters of Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State. Itigidi is situsted in the western bank of Cross River State. Dominated predominately with farming activities, which is identified as the primary occupation of the locals which can also be described as the major economic activity. Some of these activities include:
 Fishing
 Growing of food and cash crops
 Rearing of animals
 Hunting
The Itigidi language is known as the (Agbo Language) the influence of the early missionaries is significantly felt. Thus Christianity is the predominate religion. The Itigidi people like all patriarchal society enjoy a reach cultural heritage elaborately manifested in their traditional dances, festival marriage customs, chieftaincy and agr grade system whose performance attracts a large retinue of visitors to the land. Aji and the wrestling are some of the predominant annual festival.
The river Bank at Itigidi provides accessibility to other part of the state and country. The people of Itigidi are blessed with rich natural tourism sites such as the Agba caves and Mbogi fish pond. Sand beaches also exist in the dry season along Itigidi water front, which provides beautiful sceneries for lover of picnics.
The Itigidi man is creative. He engage in carving and wearing of art material like traditional caps, hoe and machete handles native towels, fishing basket or ordinary basket wooden cups cast nets, wooden trays, three legged seats, wooden drums and gong, weaving and roofing mats e.t.c.
THE MYTH OF THE ITIGIDI PEOPLE
THE Evolution story of man in the community Itigidi can be traced back to the stone age of human existence on planet earth. Science has its own evolution story on how man originated or evolved, so do different tradition have their myth about the evolution of man.
The Itigidi people ar3e people who hold strongly to the belief in their ancestral originand this has helped to sharpen the people reaction and how they do things for uncountable millennia.
The Itigidi man has said to have evolved from a tree which is secreting to the Itigidi man and known to them as (EKOMOTI). It is a huge tree that bears yellowish fruit and sour when eaten. It is said that the Itigidi man was formed from that tree, the tree was said to have produce a mud-like substance on it bark which with time developed and hatched to a human like figure. This human stayed and was nursed by the tree until he grew up and was able to fend for himself. He left the tree and started moving round the forest in search of food. He eats wild fruits, berries whatever he thought was eatable. One day when he was exploring the forest he found himself by the tree where he evolved from, but this time he found another creature like him slight difference in the feature. He took her and went out together to gather fruits and exploit the forest. They started procreating and formed a little village which they called the Lebama (Ekpolodol) otherwise known as the hill of mounds.that was how the developed and how the Itigidi community has come to stay. The tree remains sacred in the land of Itigidi. The tree is not used as fuel wood in Itigidi, dead wood of that tree is being used to create fence in the farms of the itigidi man and his surroundings. It is believed that any young woman who burns that wood will not procreate, therefore it is only old women who are above the age of chilled bearing that can burn the wood or use as fuel.
