Many years gone by, the predorminant religious denominations in Umuawulu were basically orthodox: Anglican and Catholic, with a few other pentecostal bodies to blend. However,at the turn of the century,following the unprecedented swell in religious activities in Nigeria, there\'s a sudden burst in religious bodies with the aforementioned splitting and spreading their tentacles all over the town,and new other ones introduced, all in their armies. Today, the number of christian worship centres in Umuawulu has quadruppled into an estimated amount of twenty or more.While, the inhabitants are christians, rather by default,there is an insignificant number that are of traditional bent.Those ones are outright Ndi Omenana with their shrines pitched at different parts of the town, mostly in the thicket. Though,a bulk of those christian devotees still acknowledege the divinities to whom they recourse or seek after for justice. In the truest sense of the word, Umuawulu is a polytheistic and synchretic culture.
