About village :
Makkewal is my birth place. My family and many of my relatives moved from Makkewal to India in April 1947. My father tells us that there were about 500 Hindu/Sikh folks and about 3300 Muslims in the village in 1947 (this number is of people or families in not clear due to his age). Relationships between the communities was pretty good.
Most of our relatives in nearby villages such as Mangat, Dhoul, Quadrabad, Ratowal, Phalia also moved with us and were scattered to various places in India. My father did manage to visit Lahore as part of a group to visit Sikh holy places but could not visit his dear Makkewal in 1982. We are very proud of our history around Phalia (Alexander Vs. Pouras and Sikh war with British in Chillianwala)
Many of us have now moved from India to USA. I would love to hear more about the village and see some pictures.
