History :

It was formerly known as (Khamis Shahran) as the capital of Shahran`s tribe ,and for the Thursday Market .In the fourteenth century AH in the ninth decade from it ,it called (Khamis) relatively to the name of the chieftain Shahran (Khamis) and relative to its market .
Khamis mentioned as a city in the book of ALhamdani (where he mentioned the people of Jerash,they went to Medina in the time of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, and they talked with him about people of Jerash they were in a wars ,and that wars destroyed their homes, and they said to him they were from the area of Jerash, near Mount Kashar but Prophet Muhammad a devise them to change the name to Alshuker), Alshuker small mountain in west in aplace called Dmmak in Khamis Musheyt.
there was long time successive kingdoms and rulers over the region, and because there is no natural sources of minerals and agriculture yielding a large and collapsed, so did not develop the region as it has developed advanced as of large cities.
As well as the large number of ancient tribal wars and scarcity of natural resources and the large population led to the migration to the north and to Africa across the Red Sea, which has weakened the region as a whole for along time.

At the beginning of twenties century, the Saudi state established and the King Abdul Aziz foundation the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the place development from nothing and visible to the present ,all that improved the situation of the city and Khamis become big center in west south with greatest population in KSA, as it were a connecting link between the South and all over the Kingdom,and cause of this location all invasions to the south stands primitive through this city.
Prince Abdul Aziz bin Galloway focused his soldiers where at the mouth of the Asir region, and several of King Saud and Prince Faisal bin Saad, King Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, and now houses Thursday a military base and an air base and one of the centers, defense and major business in the past and present.

Khamis was the center of the major tribes of the South, but after that the mixed tribes and colorful, it has been modified from the name of Khamis Shahran to Khamis Musheyt.
