History :

On 1 August 1952 Charmaine Elliott was born of Norman and Addie Elliott at 49 Tennyson Road Lombardy East. It was a connection that was to last more than 20 years. Herman Charles Bosman the famous author resided in Milton Road. The house backed on to 49 Tennyson Road. An acre stand with the Police Station neighboring the Bosman -Lake house, the property was later sub divided into the smaller stands evident in 2013. In the 1950\\\'s and 1960\\\'s walls were low, gates an afterthought - and dogs, children and even cows from Bridgewater Farm roamed freely in the streets. My German grandmother walked safely down to the Cafe next to the Lombardy East Bowling Club and back up the hill most days. The Lehana\\\'s owned the cafe. On Saturday-nights sometimes, drunken singing broke the silence as those restrained in the little cell at the back of the Police Station continued the party. The Rembrandt Park School was an institution of learning and firm discipline thanks to Mr Sinclair the Principal and Northcliff High School was the choice for most graduates of the Primary School. The route to town was long and complicated. A long walk to Modderfontein Road to await one of the few buses, followed by a trip to Sydenham - to change buses destined for town. The journey took well over an hour for those who used public transport up to the early 1970\\\'s. Linbro Park offered horse riding. Edenvale offered shopping. It was customary for children to ride from Lombardy East to Linbro Park to Edenvale on bicycles quite safely - and to walk to School and home.
